Tips for Winter: - Ensure you are fully stocked during the winter months. This helps ensure you do not have to go out on numerous occasions for small items if bought when you do your monthly grocery shopping. A shopping list is an essential tool during the Christmas months. This also helps ensure you miss the dreaded Christmas Rush.
- Wool and cotton are two of the warmest clothing items. try getting your hands on cloths made of these to lock in that much needed heat. Also cotton allows your body to breathe whilst still keeping you warm, a definite must over Christmas.
- Christmas is a wonderful “savings “months. This means you can spoil yourself rotten whilst still saving pennies. Go-on, use those coupons and spend wisely.
- Always put your health first, even in the Festive Season, take regular multivitamins and eat lots of fruit and vegetables to ensure optimal health is maintained.
- A way to stay clear of colds, flu’s and sinus infection this winter is to remember to wash your hands regularly. This should be one of the most important things you do. Wash your hands before and after everything (eating, going to toilet, shaking hands, sneezing, coughing, etc.). When anti-bacterial soap and water is not available use a hand sanitizer.
- Sore throats and coughing are common during winter. The best way to treat a sore throat is to drink a cup of hot water with a few slices of lemon and a teaspoon of honey. You can also opt for drinking ginger or peppermint tea.
- Congestion can be relieved by inhaling steam infused with a few drops of essential oils such as eucalyptus, thyme oil or tea tree oil; all of which have soothing and antibacterial properties.
- When steaming isn’t an option (if you are at work or out of the house), drink a bit of apple cider vinegar in a large glass of water throughout the day will help to thin mucus, enabling it to drain.
- Nasal irrigation through the use of a netti pot works great. Using a solution of warm salt water will help to soothe inflamed sinuses and get rid of stuck mucus.
- The general rule for good health is to eat healthy foods (a balanced diet) and drink plenty of water. Do not get carried away with all the exotic foods available to you this Christmas season.
- Remember to avoid all allergens (things that you are allergic to) to avoid sinus and allergy problems.
